Fashion Program Takes the Runway

June 18, 2018

On Friday, April 27 the lights were bright at the Phoenix College’s campus. Men and women sat for makeup artists and hairstylists. Fashion designers painstakingly fitted their models with the first runway outfits of the evening while family, friends, and aficionados of fashion mingled at the opening reception next door.

Program Spotlight on the Runway

The “Off Central” Runway Show was a signature night for the Phoenix College Fashion Design Program. Twenty-two designers sent fashions down the runway to a packed crowd. Cameras flashed. The audience gasped in amazement at the modern, sleek, and colorful fashions; the models were on point.

The flawless and sparkling evening was, by any account, a grand success. After the show, family and guests celebrated the designers and models with a standing ovation.

Students in the second year of PC’s fashion program showcased their designs to family, friends, and all in attendance. For many, this was the first fashion show in which they participated, gaining real-world industry experience.

Fashion program alumni likewise displayed their fashions, demonstrating how a few additional years of experience, coupled with the education received while in the fashion design program, can catapult one to success. A few notable alumni include Amber Lillie ‘12 of VSLZ Fashion Group and Sam Hamati ‘14 of Hamati Designs. Among the sponsors of the event was Breanna Rose Skoon ‘17 of Lousy Rich. Fashion Meets Function in Class

Without the dedication and creativity of the 2018 Fashion Show Production Class, this signature event would never have taken shape. The runway show was the culmination of countless hours of hard work both in the classroom and in the students’ personal time. Students in the class designed the show, found sponsors, and invited fashion design program alumni to participate in the runway event.

Students, alumni, and faculty alike are excited to grow the event next year; fostering new sponsors to help grow and support the Fashion Design Program.
